Three Days

In three and a half days I graduate. And on that day, [info]llieno will be retired. I'm moving to [info]scattermoon (and why not as I seem to be moving everywhere else as well!). Please add that journal if you wish to continue to read my updates, since I'm basically friends-only these days. I'm sticking here for just a little while more and will post at least one more reminder, but this is the big 'Heads Up'.

In other brief news, I saw a spider do a vertical backflip on the wall earlier. I'd have clapped had I not been having a shower.

Cold Stone Creamery / Brüno

Cold Stone Creamery has recently opened 6 location in Canada via their co-branding strategy with Tim Hortons. In the States, Timmy's are being opened inside Cold Stone stores, and the reverse is happening here. These are currently located in Hamilton, Oakville, Mississauga and Toronto. I saw the one in Mississauga on the way to my aunt's house at Clarkson Road/Lakeshore Road and I was in the area yesteday, so I knew I had to go visit! Hell, even during my short visit to Seattle for the onsite interview with Microsoft, I had to make sure a I made a visit to one! Too bad they didn't put one by Square One instead.

I got myself a Cookie Doughn't You Want Some™ (French Vanilla ice cream, chocolate chips, cookie dough, fudge and caramel) Signature Creation and it was delicious! The ice cream was so creamy and totally satisfied my craving. It was funny how the Cold Stone side of the counter had such a huge lineup, while nobody was ordering from Timmy's when I was there. Unlike Marble Slab - who charges 7 fucking dollars for a cone, it was only $4.99+tax for a Love It (medium) Signature Creation. Om nom nom...

It's probably also really bad for you, as the nutritional facts shown on the website indicates that one Love It-sized French Vanilla ice cream contains 110% of the recommended daily serving of saturated fat!

On the subject of creamery, I went to see the movie Brüno last night at Empire Theatres in Square One. Y'know, the theatre that nobody really goes to? Yeah, me neither. Anyhow, yesterday was the opening night and I was an hour early for it. Surprisingly, there was barely anybody in the theatres. When the movie started, the seats were maybe around 70% full.

I loved Da Ali G Show when I had HBO On-Demand during my first stay in San Diego, and I loved Sacha Baron Cohen's previous movie, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, so I knew I had to see this! And while Borat was still the better movie, it sure did not disappoint! The biggest differences between the two movies are that there weren't a lot of character development in Brüno and that each scene in Brüno is much shorter. Maybe people realized what was going on much earlier this time around. The format was also much different from the Brüno segments in Da Ali G Show, where he gets fashion experts to say outrageously politically incorrect statement (like complimenting the fashion styles of Bin Laden or Hitler) or make them contradict themselves. However, compared to Borat, Brüno was even more outrageous, still funny and at times awkward. It also showed a lot of dick! There was no slow part in the movie at all and I was laughing all the way through. Yay for totally politically incorrect movies!

Now I'm curious to see the original ending because apparently they had to change it to appeal to gay rights groups. However, the movie in its current form is definitely not anti-gay, nor does it really move forward the gay rights movement, but it is definitely worth watching if you like that kinda humour.

Prior to the movie showing, I've been watching "Brüno's" appearances on recent talk shows to promote the movie and they were all hilarious.

Brüno on the Tonight Show with Conan

Brüno on the Today Show

Oh and of course, there was the interview with GQ magazine where he's on the front page cover, and he has his own very authentic-looking MySpace page!

---

On a totally different note, I managed to pick myself up a used copy of Rock Band for Wii at EB Games for only $9.99. While the Wii version is incredibly crippled (no online capabilities, no character customization, songs can't be imported to RB2, not compatible with my Guitar Hero 3 guitar). But for $9.99, I really can't complain. The Rock Band store that is included with my Rock Band 2 game is incredibly evil, as I have now spent more money on downloadable content ($2 USD per song) than on the actual game software ($60)!

Like... just... Iunno... home alone for a month kind of alone?

In a public washroom with no toilet paper and nobody there to pass you a square 'cause you went to the one on the 4th floor next to the skeevy shops everyone's too embarrassed to go into in daytime...?

Iunno, it's weird. To be surrounded with friends and family, whether it be IRL or online... it's like being in another country where you don't know the language (other than "direct me to the clean toilets").

Being alone and lonely are two different things.

But today, they feel like one and the same.

Maybe I just need to stop sitting online at odd hours of the morning...

Dog friendly Condos

Jul. 8th, 2009 | 03:57 am
posted by: daenerys_1 in mississauga

Hello,

I am wondering if there are any existing condos in Mississauga that are dog friendly (not just chihuahua-sized, but medium sized dogs too approximately 50 pounds)? I know that Amacon is building a dog friendly condo/urban village along Confederation south of Rathburn, but isn't going to be complete any time soon. Although it seems really neat, with a pooch patio and everything!

I do realize that a detached house is more to the liking of medium sized dogs, but I'm currently exercising my options since detached houses are INSANELY priced in and around Toronto (potential first time buyer here).

Or if anybody knows of a really good real estate agent, that'd be cool too, hehe.

Thanks!

Pardon me while I burst...
Pardon me while I burst...

A decade ago,
I never thought I would be,
at twenty-three, on the verge of
spontaneous combustion, woe is me.
But I guess that it comes
with the territory,
An ominous landscape of
never-ending calamity.
I need you to hear,
I need you to see
that I have had all I can take and
exploding seems like an imminent possibility to me.

So pardon me while I burst
into flames.
I've had enough of the world
and its people's mindless games.
So pardon me while I burn
and rise above the flame.
Pardon me, pardon me...
I'll never be the same.

Not two days ago,
I was having a look
in a book
and I saw a picture of a guy
fried up above his knee.
I said, "I can relate,"
cause lately I've been thinking of combustication
as a welcome vacation from
the burdens of
the planet Earth.
like gravity, hypocrisy,
and the perils of being in 3-D...
but thinking so much differently.

Pardon me while I burst
into flames.
I've had enough of the world
and its people's mindless games.
So pardon me while I burn
and rise above the flame.
Pardon me, pardon me...
I'll never be the same.

Never be the same, yeah...
Pardon me, while I burst into flames...
Pardon me, pardon me, pardon me.

So pardon me while I burst
into flames.
I've had enough of the world
and its people's mindless games.
So pardon me while I burn
and rise above the flame.
Pardon me, pardon me...
I'll never be the same.

Pardon me, pardon me, never be the same, yeah...

The Offspring in Concert

Jul. 5th, 2009 | 11:15 pm
music: Hammerhead - The Offspring
posted by: blahblahblah

As previously mentioned, I grabbed a cheap ticket to go see the Offspring at the Molson Amphitheatre by myself, because I'm a loser. I guess you can consider me as a casual Offspring fan because I know and like their music enough to enjoy their concerts, but I don't like them enough to pay full price to see them. But for $23.21, hells yes! Not to mention Molson Amphitheatre is sadly by far the easiest venue for me to get to as I only have to bus to Port Credit and hop on the GO train to Exhibition.

I arrived at the venue a bit past 8:15pm, as I had no desire to see the opening acts (Frank Turner and Pennywise), not to mention I had a reserved seat. I wasn't the only one as there were around 60 others that came off the train with me.

The Offspring started their set promptly at 9pm with "Stuff Is Messed Up" from their latest album, Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace. Aside from that song, they played the four singles from that album throughout their set. They seemed to acknowledge that their two previous albums (Conspiracy Of One and Splinter) were not very well-liked as they only bothered to play one song from each ("Want You Bad", "(Can't Get My) Head Around You" respectively), and the rest of the set was from Americana and before. The concertgoers responded accordingly as barely anybody was able to sing along to the songs from Rise And Fall... aside from "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid", while almost everybody was singing along to all songs from Americana and before.

The band sounded great playing their solid setlist that evening (aside from a few sour notes in the beginning of "Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?") and it really showed that they've been around for a while. They brought out the piano for Dexter to play an acoustic version of "Gone Away", which was kinda cool. Kudos to them for wishing Canada a happy birthday and was able to say that Canada is 142 years old, I forgive them for making bad dirty beaver jokes. Unfortunately, their age has taken a toll on their looks as lead singer Dexter gained a lot of weight. I mean it wasn't like he was ever amazingly good looking, but he looked pretty decent back then, and now it just seems like he was trying really hard to hide his gut. A couple of (really drunk) chicks behind me couldn't stop yelling out "take your shirt off!", thankfully Dexter did not listen to that.

The 18-song setlist was followed-up by 3 not-too-lame encores ("Hammerhead", "Want You Bad" and "Self Esteem", really... like they weren't gonna play that!) and clocked a little over 90 minutes. I was quite amused that I was one of a handful of Asians that were there. Sweet! I managed to pick up a ticket for the Killers as they were selling tickets for that show along with others that are having trouble selling for just $20 including service charges. Too bad the show was not quite sold out and the lawn section wasn't even opened. What a shame because it was definitely worth the money!
